Chipped Mod FAQ
Sixteen answers covering downloads, installation, security, licensing, updates, troubleshooting and alternatives.
Download & Setup
Is Chipped Mod free to download?
Yes. Chipped is free and published by the Terrarium team on Modrinth and CurseForge, with its source on GitHub. You never need to pay for the mod itself. Be wary of sites that charge for it or wrap the file in an installer, because the official jar is always a direct, free download from those platforms.
Which Minecraft versions does Chipped support?
Chipped supports Minecraft Java Edition from 1.16 through 1.21.1, with the newest builds on 1.21.1. Recent versions ship for Fabric and NeoForge, and older versions also have Forge builds. Always pick the file that matches both your game version and your loader, because a mismatch stops the game at launch.
What else do I need to install?
Chipped needs Athena for connected textures and Resourceful Lib as a shared library. Fabric players also need Fabric API. Download each file for the same Minecraft version and loader as Chipped. Launchers such as Modrinth App, Prism or CurseForge App usually add these dependencies automatically when you add Chipped.
How do I install Chipped Mod?
Install Fabric or NeoForge, run the game once to create the mods folder, then place Chipped, Athena and Resourceful Lib inside it, plus Fabric API on Fabric. Launch the modded profile and check the mod list. Our installation page walks through each step for Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile launchers.
Is Chipped Mod safe?
The official files from Modrinth and CurseForge are scanned by those platforms and come straight from the developers, so they are safe to use. Risk comes from reuploads on unofficial sites, which may bundle adware. Download only from the official pages, keep your launcher updated, and never run an .exe claiming to install Chipped.
Is Chipped open source?
The source code is public on GitHub under the Terrarium organisation, so anyone can read it and report issues. The licence is All Rights Reserved, though, which means you can use and include it in modpacks according to the platform rules, but you should not reupload or redistribute modified copies without the authors' permission.
Can I use Chipped in my modpack?
Yes. Modrinth and CurseForge modpacks reference Chipped directly from the platform, which is the approved way to include it. Add Athena and Resourceful Lib as dependencies too. Avoid bundling the jar inside a zip on a third-party host; linking through the platform keeps downloads counted for the authors.
How do I update Chipped?
Delete the old Chipped jar, download the newest one for your Minecraft version and loader, and update Athena and Resourceful Lib at the same time. Back up your world first. Launchers can update everything in one click. Worlds keep their placed blocks across minor updates within the same Minecraft version.
Usage & Fixes
Does Chipped Mod work on Bedrock?
No. Chipped is a Java Edition mod and cannot run on Bedrock, which uses add-ons instead of mods. There is no official Bedrock port. Files labelled Chipped for Bedrock on unofficial sites are not made by the original team. Bedrock players can look for decoration add-ons, but none match Chipped's full block list.
Is there a Chipped Mod saw?
Chipped does not use a saw or chisel item. Instead it adds seven workbenches, such as the Mason Table and Carpenter's Table, that convert blocks. Some players search for a saw because other decoration mods use one. If you want a handheld tool, look at Rechiseled, which uses a chisel-style item.
Why does my game crash with Chipped?
Most crashes come from a missing Athena or Resourceful Lib file, a Fabric jar on NeoForge, or a version mismatch. Read the crash screen; it usually names the missing mod. Replace all Chipped-related jars with one matching set for your version and loader, and remove duplicate library versions from the mods folder.
Why are connected textures not working?
Connected textures depend on Athena. If blocks show borders where they should join, Athena is missing, outdated, or overridden by another connected-texture mod or a resource pack. Update Athena, disable other texture mods for a test, and try your shader pack on its default settings to rule out lighting issues.
Does Chipped hurt performance?
Chipped adds many block models, so first launch takes longer and uses more memory. In normal play the impact is small. Allocate 4 to 6 GB of RAM, add Sodium on Fabric, and avoid stacking several large decoration mods at once. Most mid-range PCs run Chipped smoothly with those settings.
Where is the Chipped Mod wiki?
There is no large official wiki. The most accurate references are the mod pages on Modrinth and CurseForge, the GitHub repository, and a recipe viewer like JEI, REI or EMI inside the game, which lists every variant and station. Our guide and blog cover workbenches, recipes and fixes in plain steps.
What are good Chipped alternatives?
Rechiseled offers a chisel-style tool on modern versions. Chisel is the original and suits older packs. Macaw's mods and Handcrafted add furniture and building pieces that pair well with Chipped. The alternatives table on this page compares licence, platforms and strengths so you can pick what fits your builds.
Can I remove Chipped from a world?
You can, but blocks from Chipped will disappear or turn into missing blocks when the mod is gone. Convert important builds back to vanilla blocks at the workbenches first, then back up your world before removing the mod. Never remove mods from a server world without a full backup.
